The CODE Program

The CODE program allows for easy access to the COADS data. Input includes the latitudes and longitudes defining a region of the extract, a time and space scale for the summaries, parameters to include in the summaries, and flags to use in order to include or exclude certain observations. Output can be in a variety of self-annotated ASCII formats, in HDF or NetCDF formats. This allows for the output to be directly imported into a variety of standard statistical and visualization programs. For example, below is one frame of a movie showing wind stress (vectors) and SST (colors) for the North Pacific Ocean during July 1990. This was produced from an HDF file created by the CODE program, using Spyglass Dicer, Transform and Format.
